It’s Not Always Easy

Yesterday was one of those days where I had to really work at staying present and not let all my energy get sapped by the grey skies and chilly temperatures.

I’ve been studying mindfulness, meditation, psychology, and the like for a long time…but still, if I am not careful, I can slip into the blues or waltz into a pity party.

Why? Because I am human and still learning.

What helps? Friends, exercise, mantras, art expression (like this painting I created, above), and most importantly, not beating myself up about the tumble.

I’m hoping that you go easy on yourself. Don’t add to your blue-ness. Let it pass without judgement and move on.

Simple but not easy as Mel Robbins would say.

Sending you love,

Filomena

Remain Thankful

It’s the Saturday after Thanksgiving here in America. I’m writing this from my office in Upstate New York. The sky is grey, there is snow and ice, and I’m wearing a lot of layers. For those who know me, they know that I am more of a lizard than a polar bear…I prefer warm breezes and sunny days to the current conditions.

During this time of the year I have to stretch a little further to remain in my mental “happy place”. I find this task much easier when I take the time to remain thankful for all that I have and all that I am. I live in a charming house with a blazing wood stove. The birds and squirrels play games outside my sliding glass doors (‘cause I feed them well!). My cabinets are stocked full of healthy foods and an array of teas.

I have a lot to be thankful for and I know it. It’s ok to not love all the conditions you by which you are currently surrounded. It’s ok to be less than thrilled at the temperature outside. What’s not ok is giving in to these temporary disappointments.

Make a list of everything you are thankful for, and check it twice! Leaning into the things we love helps stem the tides of the winter blahs.

Be well! Much love to you, Filomena
